A video claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched an investment scheme promising a monthly income of Rs 25 lakh is circulating widely on social media. The government, however, has confirmed that the claim is false, saying the video was created using artificial intelligence (AI) and does not represent any official announcement.

The misleading clip allegedly shows the Prime Minister promoting an investment platform that promises returns of Rs 85,000 a day—roughly Rs 25 lakh every month—after an initial investment of Rs 22,000. It also claims users can earn the money without prior experience or any work.

What did the government say?

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check unit has rejected the claims and warned people against falling for such online scams.

In a post on X, PIB said, “A digitally manipulated video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is doing rounds on the internet wherein he is promoting an investment platform, guaranteeing citizens of a monthly income of Rs 25 lakhs on an initial investment of Rs 22,000.”

The agency clarified that the Prime Minister has not endorsed any such investment platform.

“This video is fake and AI-generated. The Prime Minister has not endorsed any such investment scheme or platform.”

PIB also cautioned people against fraudulent links and fake endorsements designed to steal money or personal information.

“BEWARE of phishing scams that could lead to financial losses. Do not click any suspicious links or share OTPs with unknown people. Help stop misinformation by reporting suspicious content related to the Central Government to PIB Fact Check.”

What is a phishing scam?

Phishing is a form of cyber fraud in which criminals pose as trusted individuals, banks, companies or government agencies to deceive people into revealing sensitive information or transferring money.

Fraudsters commonly use fake websites, emails, WhatsApp messages, text messages and increasingly AI-generated videos featuring well-known personalities to make their schemes appear genuine.

Cyber fraud cases on the rise

The warning comes as cybercrime continues to increase across India. According to data from the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, nearly 28 lakh cyber fraud cases involving losses of around Rs 22,931 crore were reported in 2025.
