India condemns Hormuz attack following deadly strikes on two commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz that claimed the life of an Indian seafarer and injured ten others. The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday issued a strong statement expressing concern over the attacks and summoned the deputy chief of mission of the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi to formally register India’s protest. The government described the incidents as unacceptable acts of violence that threaten international maritime trade and civilian shipping.
India condemns Hormuz attack as casualties mount among Indian crew
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two vessels, MT Al Bahiyah and MT Mombasa, together had 30 Indian nationals among their crew members. One Indian sailor lost his life aboard MT Al Bahiyah, while another sustained injuries. On MT Mombasa, nine Indian crew members were injured, with two reported to be in serious condition.
The government conveyed its condolences to the family of the deceased sailor and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. Officials also reiterated that commercial vessels and civilian infrastructure should never become targets during armed conflicts.

Government calls for safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz
The Hormuz attack statement, which also highlighted the importance of restoring normal shipping operations through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes. The government stressed that uninterrupted navigation remains vital for global commerce and energy security.
New Delhi urged all parties involved to respect international law and ensure that commercial shipping is allowed to move safely without disruption. The Ministry said attacks on civilian vessels undermine stability in the region and increase uncertainty for global supply chains.

New Delhi urges diplomacy to prevent further escalation
Beyond condemning the incident,the government called for an immediate end to violence and urged all sides to return to dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further deterioration of the regional security situation.
The latest attacks have once again raised concerns over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage through which a significant share of global oil, gas and other essential commodities is transported. India, which depends heavily on energy imports passing through the route, has consistently supported freedom of navigation and peaceful resolution of regional conflicts.
The government is expected to remain in close contact with shipping authorities and diplomatic missions to monitor the condition of the injured Indian crew members while continuing efforts to safeguard Indian nationals working in international waters.
