Lucknow-Delhi IndiGo flight delayed after ‘bomb’ note discovered in lavatory; threat found to be hoax

A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight carrying around 180 passengers was delayed on Friday at Lucknow after a bomb threat alert initiated a security operation shortly before take-off. The threat was, however, found to be a hoax upon investigation by the authorities. The plane remained grounded until all mandatory security checks were completed, Hindustan Times reported.

The Lucknow-Delhi flight was scheduled to depart from Lucknow at 10.45 AM. According to PTI, the crew received information about a possible bomb threat moments before departure. As a precaution, the aircraft was not cleared for take-off.

Tissue paper note triggers security alert

A tissue paper was allegedly discovered inside one of the plane’s lavatories carrying the word “bomb”. The security scare was sparked off then, sources told PTI.

Following the discovery, airport security agencies launched a thorough inspection of the aircraft and its surroundings. Passengers remained on hold while officials carried out standard security protocols to ensure the safety of everyone on board.

After an extensive search, authorities concluded that the threat was not genuine.

No explosives found, flight delayed

Officials said no bomb, explosive device, or any other harmful substance was recovered during the inspection. Further legal and security procedures were initiated as per protocol.

In a statement, IndiGo confirmed that a security threat was detected on flight 6E 2111, scheduled to operate between Lucknow and Delhi on June 12.

“IndiGo flight 6E 2111 scheduled to operate from Lucknow to Delhi on 12 June 2026. Following the established protocol, we informed the relevant authorities immediately and are fully cooperating with them in carrying out the necessary security checks. The aircraft will operate its journey to Delhi post securing relevant clearances. We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers and are making all efforts to minimise it, including offering them refreshments and timely updates. As always, safety and security of our customers, crew and aircraft are our topmost priorities,” IndiGo said.

The airline said it was providing refreshments and regular updates to passengers affected by the delay.
