Passengers travelling with Air India at Mumbai airport were left stranded for nearly 90 minutes after a sudden disruption caused by a strike by ground handling staff.
The situation led to delays in baggage delivery and aircraft servicing, triggering frustration among travellers waiting inside the airport premises.
Passengers left waiting amid operational chaos
The disruption reportedly affected several arriving passengers, many of whom remained stuck inside the airport for over an hour without clear communication from airline authorities. Delays in unloading baggage and coordinating airport services added to the confusion.
Some passengers said they were not informed properly about the reason behind the hold-up. According to reports, long queues formed near baggage belts as travellers waited for updates from airline staff and airport officials. The issue also impacted movement around arrival areas, creating congestion inside the terminal.

The ground staff strike affected airport operations
The delays were linked to a strike by sections of ground handling employees responsible for baggage movement and aircraft servicing. Ground staff play a crucial role in unloading luggage, preparing aircraft for departure and supporting turnaround operations at airports.
Because of the disruption, several routine airport activities reportedly slowed down, leading to inconvenience for passengers arriving in Mumbai. Airline and airport teams were later seen attempting to manage the crowd and restore normal operations.
Passengers expressed frustration over the lack of information
Travellers complained that there was little clarity during the delay, and many were left waiting without timely announcements. Some passengers also questioned why alternate arrangements were not made earlier to avoid inconvenience.
Actor Vineet Kumar Singh, who was reportedly among those affected, said, “We were clueless about what was happening”, as per News18 reports.
Passengers also highlighted the difficulty faced by elderly travellers and families with children during the extended wait inside the airport.

Situation later brought under control
Airport operations gradually returned to normal after intervention by airline and airport authorities. However, the incident once again brought attention to the impact that staffing disruptions can have on passenger movement and airport functioning, especially during busy travel hours.
