The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed the launch of its portal for verification and re-evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets, pushing the date from May 29 to June 1.
The decision comes amid ongoing debate surrounding the board’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, which was used extensively during this year’s evaluation process. In a statement issued on Friday, CBSE said the postponement was intended to ensure a transparent and glitch-free experience for students applying through the Post-Result Activities portal.
“To ensure a transparent and glitch-free process for verification and re-evaluation of answer books of students who intend to submit their applications on the Post-Result Activities portal, it has been decided that the designated portal will now be operational from 1st June 2026,” the board said.

Students with queries have been advised to contact the CBSE Tele-Counselling Helpline or email the board’s result support desk.
Portal being strengthened, says CBSE
A CBSE official confirmed that the portal would not open on May 29 as originally expected.
“CBSE will share an update on restarting of the portal. The portal will not open today. It will open on June 1 because we are still strengthening the website,” the official told Hindustan Times.
The verification and re-evaluation facility will be available only to students who have already obtained scanned copies of their evaluated answer books. Under the revised process, students will be able to raise question-wise objections if they believe marks have not been awarded appropriately.

Education Ministry officials said candidates will be required to identify specific answers they wish to challenge rather than seek a blanket review of the entire answer script. Once objections are submitted, the concerned answers will be reassessed by subject experts through the OSM framework. Any change in marks will subsequently be communicated to the candidate.
Review process revised after OSM concerns
The latest development comes amid criticism and concerns raised by some students and teachers following the declaration of Class 12 results.
This year’s examinations were evaluated using CBSE’s expanded On-Screen Marking system, under which answer scripts were digitised and assessed electronically. To address concerns raised after the results, the Ministry of Education and CBSE had earlier announced major reductions in post-result review fees.
The fee for obtaining scanned copies of answer books was reduced from ₹700 to ₹100 per subject. Verification charges were also reduced from ₹500 to ₹100, while re-evaluation fees were cut from ₹100 to ₹25 per question. The ministry additionally announced that students would receive a full refund if their marks increased following review.
Education Ministry Secretary Sanjay Kumar had earlier said the revised fee structure was intended to ensure that no student felt disadvantaged by the evaluation process.
CBSE defends digital evaluation system
The debate around OSM intensified after the Class 12 pass percentage dropped to 85.20 per cent this year, compared with 88.39 per cent in 2025 — the sharpest decline in seven years.
Some students and teachers questioned whether the new evaluation mechanism had influenced marking standards. CBSE officials, however, have consistently defended the system, maintaining that answer sheets were assessed entirely by trained teachers and that artificial intelligence was not used in awarding marks.

According to CBSE Chairperson Rahul Singh, nearly 77,000 teachers participated in the evaluation process after undergoing specialised training.
The board has argued that OSM improves transparency by digitising answer books, eliminating calculation errors and allowing answer scripts to be assessed across different regions. Officials have also indicated that the digital evaluation model is likely to remain a key part of future board examinations.
CBSE is expected to keep the verification and re-evaluation portal open for at least two days after the final scanned copies of answer books are made available to applicants.
