Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has told the Karnataka High Court that he will submit a revised apology affidavit in connection with a case filed against him over his mimicry of actor Rishab Shetty at the International Film Festival of India on November 28 last year. The incident involved a depiction of Chamundi Devi, prompting a legal complaint from Prashanth Methal, as reported by The Times of India.
The complainant has argued that the existing affidavit does not reflect genuine remorse, leading Ranveer Singh’s legal team to agree to consult with Prashanth Methal on the wording before submitting a refined version to the court. Justice M Nagaprasanna, who heard the matter, adjourned the case to April 23.

The incident
As per the report of The Times of India, during the film festival, Ranveer Singh mimicked Rishab Shetty on stage while praising his performance in ‘Kantara: Chapter 1.’ Rishab Shetty signalled Ranveer Singh to stop, but Ranveer Singh repeated the act, including while greeting and hugging him.
Court proceedings
Senior Advocate Sajan Poovayya, representing Ranveer Singh, read from the existing affidavit in court.
“I have filed an affidavit of apology. And I have undertaken in that affidavit that I will visit the temple as well. On the date of the incident, even for a moment, I did not realise I offended the worshippers of the Daiva. I also want to clarify, I was raised in a Sindhi household in Mumbai and I was not aware of the sensitivities.
I, through this affidavit, once again convey my deepest regret, and unconditional apology. I will be visiting the temple of the deity in due course to offer my prayers and express my devotion,” Poovayya was quoted as saying by Bar and Bench.
The actor has also stated separately that he did not realise at the time that his remarks could hurt religious sentiments.
Earlier public apology
Ranveer Singh had previously issued a public statement saying, “My intention was to highlight Rishabh’s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he has my utmost admiration. I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”

Ranveer Singh has appeared in the recent film named Dhurandhar 2 as a lead role. Dhurandhar 2 continues the story of Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy operating in Lyari to dismantle a terror network targeting India.
The sequel depicts his training as Hamza Ali Mazari, his rise in the underworld, and a confrontation with Arjun Rampal. Other cast members include R Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, Sara Arjun, Danish Pandor, and Sanjay Dutt.
