Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga has scripted one of Bollywood’s biggest box office turnarounds of the year. After opening to positive reviews but modest collections, the romantic drama has now officially emerged as a commercial hit in its sixth week, driven by sustained audience support and strong word of mouth.
According to PTI, producer Mohit Choudhary said the film has recovered its production cost through a combination of theatrical and non-theatrical revenues.
How did the film turn its box office fortunes around?
Speaking to PTI, Choudhary credited audiences for the film’s success.
“The box office success of Main Vaapas Aaunga is a reflection of the love the film has received from the audience. A very strong word of mouth powers it ahead as it marches towards a 50-plus day theatrical run,” he said.

He added that while the film’s commercial prospects looked uncertain during its opening days, it has now recovered its investment.
“In its sixth week now, the film has already recovered its cost from the theatrical and non-theatrical revenue streams. This seemed extremely difficult at the start of its theatrical journey. While the film has been and will always remain a ‘people’s hit’, it is now officially also a commercial hit,” Choudhary said.
The producer also acknowledged the contribution of partners Applause Entertainment, Birla Studios, Tips Music, director Imtiaz Ali, and the cast and crew.
