Actor Nora Fatehi appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday in connection with the controversy surrounding the song Sarke Chunar from the film KD: The Devil. The actor submitted a written apology after being summoned by the Commission over allegations of indecent portrayal of women in the song.
The controversy began after the Hindi version of the song, released on YouTube on March 15, faced criticism over its allegedly sexually explicit lyrics and choreography. The song featured Nora Fatehi alongside actor Sanjay Dutt and quickly drew backlash online and from public figures.

Nora appears before Commission

Following her appearance before the NCW in Delhi, Nora addressed media persons stationed outside the Commission office. She said she never intended to offend anyone and accepted responsibility as an artist.
“I did (appear before the Commission) and I apologised. It was just a situation that I was put in, and there was no intention to offend anybody, but of course, I have to be responsible as an artist. I definitely apologised, we have done everything in writing,” Nora said.
Nora also said the Commission had been “kind and helpful” during the proceedings. She added that she wanted to contribute positively to society following the controversy.
Actor pledges support for orphan girls’ education
As per the report of Hindustan Times, the part of her response after the hearing, Nora Fatehi announced that she would sponsor the education of orphaned girls.
“They have been so kind and helpful. It’s really important for us to give back to society. So, I decided that we should sponsor a few orphan girls, their education, so that is the goal after this matter,” she said.
The NCW had earlier taken suo motu cognisance of media reports alleging obscenity and vulgarity in the song. According to reports, the Commission observed that the content appeared “sexually suggestive” and “objectionable.”
Sanjay Dutt had also apologised earlier
Last month, actor Sanjay Dutt also appeared before the Commission in connection with the same controversy and submitted a written apology. Reports stated that he expressed regret for any “unintended” harm caused through the song.
As part of corrective measures, Sanjay Dutt reportedly committed to sponsoring the education of 50 tribal girl children.
Song removed after backlash
Following criticism and public outrage, the makers removed the Hindi version of Sarke Chunar from YouTube, although the song continued circulating on other platforms. The lyricist, singer and director associated with the track had also issued apologies earlier.
Nora Fatehi had previously clarified that she had originally shot for the Kannada version of the song and claimed she was unaware of the Hindi lyrics at the time of filming.
