Delhi won’t see much rain for the next three days. The IMD says only a few scattered showers are expected here and there, with no widespread monsoon rain until July 19. So residents can expect short spells of rain and thunderstorms, but nothing major.

The weather is expected to turn more active between July 20 and 22, when the monsoon picks up pace. Delhi and nearby areas of Haryana are likely to get much wider rainfall during this period, and some places could see heavy rain along with thunder and lightning.

Light rain in Delhi is expected over the next three days

The IMD says Delhi won’t see much rain until July 19. Only a few scattered spots across the city are likely to get showers, not the whole city.

The weather department says this pattern will change from July 20, when rainfall is expected to pick up noticeably.

Rain in Delhi to increase from July 20

Between July 20 and July 22, the IMD expects fairly widespread to widespread rain across Delhi and neighbouring Haryana. Some areas may also see heavy rainfall during these three days, meaning while most parts of the city get rain, a few spots could see much heavier showers.

Monsoon set to become stronger

This upcoming spell is expected to bring a stronger phase of the monsoon, after several days of weak rainfall activity. The IMD says rain will be far more widespread during July 20–22 compared to the days before it.

Meanwhile, Delhi is currently recording a temperature of around 36°C, with a thunderstorm forecast later today. Temperatures are expected to rise by another 2-3°C before the more active monsoon spell begins on July 20.
