The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday allowed a second autopsy in the death case of model and actor Twisha Sharma, marking a major development in an investigation that has triggered widespread public attention and allegations of foul play.
The court directed that the fresh postmortem examination be conducted by a medical team from AIIMS Delhi. While the doctors will be flown in from Delhi through a special arrangement, the procedure itself will take place in Bhopal.
The High Court also instructed authorities to complete the process at the earliest. The decision comes after Twisha Sharma’s family approached the court challenging an earlier lower court order that had rejected their demand for a second autopsy.

Her family has consistently maintained that the case requires deeper forensic investigation and should not be treated as a straightforward suicide.
Husband withdraws bail plea amid probe
The court proceedings coincided with another major development in the case. Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, withdrew his bail application from the High Court and informed the court that he would surrender before a trial court and seek bail there instead.

Police officials have reportedly been searching for Singh since Twisha’s death. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the state government, told the court that ordering a second autopsy should not be viewed as questioning the competence of the first medical team. According to him, the move would instead help strengthen confidence among all parties involved in the investigation.
Family alleges lapses in first postmortem
Twisha Sharma’s family had earlier pointed to multiple alleged inconsistencies in the first autopsy report while seeking a fresh examination. Among the concerns raised were delays in the filing of the FIR, missing details regarding injuries found on the body and alleged discrepancies related to her recorded height in the postmortem report compared to police records.
The family also alleged that investigators failed to provide material reportedly used in the hanging during the first examination process. Twisha’s lawyer questioned why the original report did not include detailed references to injuries found on her body.

The actor was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12, barely five months after marrying Samarth Singh in December 2025. According to her family, Twisha had allegedly faced physical abuse, mental harassment and dowry-related pressure from her husband and in-laws.
WhatsApp conversations between Twisha and her mother, Rekha Sharma, reportedly revealed that she felt “trapped” in the marriage and had been experiencing mental torture.
The fresh autopsy is now expected to become a crucial turning point in determining the direction of the investigation and addressing questions raised by the victim’s family.
