Dating app romance turns into tragic dowry case in Bhopal as Noida woman dies six months after marriage

What began as a relationship through a dating app in 2024 ended in tragedy for Twisha Sharma and her family.

The 33-year-old woman was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12, leading to a police investigation and growing demands for justice from her relatives, per a report by Hindustan Times.

A dating app connection led to marriage

According to police, Twisha Sharma met Bhopal-based lawyer Samarth Singh through a dating app in 2024. Their relationship later turned into marriage, and the couple tied the knot in December 2025, per the HT report.

After the wedding, Twisha moved from Noida to Bhopal and began living with her husband and his family in the Katara Hills area. Samarth Singh is the son of retired judge Giribala Singh.

Family alleges harassment and assault

Twisha’s family has allegedly accused her husband and mother-in-law of dowry harassment, physical assault, and murder. According to relatives, she was reportedly unhappy after shifting to Bhopal and wanted to return to Noida.

Her father alleged that Twisha had spoken to him shortly before her death and complained about harassment by her husband and mother-in-law. The family also claimed there were injury marks on her body and alleged that evidence was destroyed after her death.

Messages that surfaced later reportedly showed Twisha expressing emotional distress. One of the chats allegedly read, “I am trapped, bro. Bas tu mat phasna”, as per Hindustan Times.

SIT was formed to investigate the case

Police have registered a case against Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions related to dowry death and harassment. A six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been formed to investigate the allegations.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Kashyap, who is leading the SIT probe, said the investigation would examine allegations of dowry harassment, physical assault, and attempts to destroy evidence. Police teams have also intensified efforts to trace and arrest the husband.

Family protests outside CM’s residence

As the investigation progressed, Twisha’s family staged a protest outside Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav’s residence in Bhopal. The family demanded a second post-mortem examination at AIIMS Delhi and sought transfer of legal proceedings outside Madhya Pradesh.
