Commuters across Delhi-NCR faced long traffic snarls on Tuesday as simultaneous protests by youth groups and farmers led to road closures, diversions and heightened security across the national capital.

Delhi Police issued traffic advisories on X , urging residents to avoid affected stretches and use alternative routes.

Heavy security across the capital

Security was tightened around several parts of Delhi following a large youth-led protest near Jantar Mantar and a separate farmers’ demonstration at Kisan Ghat.

Police deployed additional personnel, barricades and traffic diversions to prevent the gatherings from spilling into major roads and sensitive areas.

Traffic congestion was reported on key roads in central Delhi and along several border routes connecting the capital with neighbouring cities.

Commuters travelling between Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram experienced significant delays during peak hours.

Farmers’ protest adds to congestion

The farmers’ protest further intensified traffic pressure as demonstrators assembled to press their demands, including concerns related to agricultural policies and the proposed India-US trade agreement.

Police advised motorists to avoid routes leading towards Kisan Ghat and nearby stretches due to possible diversions.

Meanwhile, security arrangements at the Shambhu border also affected traffic movement on highways linking Delhi with Punjab and Haryana, leading to congestion beyond the capital region.

Delhi Traffic Police requested commuters to plan journeys in advance, follow real-time traffic updates and opt for public transport wherever possible.
