A 22-year-old student preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) was found dead at a rented accommodation in Rajasthan’s Sikar.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the pressure faced by aspirants in one of India’s major coaching centres, with police describing it as the second similar case reported in the city within a month.
Student was preparing for his third NEET attempt
According to police quoted by Hindustan Times, the student was a resident of Jhunjhunu district and was scheduled to appear for the NEET-UG retest on June 21. Officials said it would have been his third attempt at clearing the highly competitive medical entrance examination.

The retest was announced after the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled NEET-UG 2026 on May 12, following allegations that the question paper had been compromised. Authorities later confirmed that exam questions had surfaced on some mobile phones before the examination, leading to a fresh round of scrutiny and a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), according to Hindustan Times.
Family members discovered him at home
Rajesh Kumar Budania, a Rajasthan police officer, told HT that the student was living in a rented flat in Sikar. His father, who works in Mumbai, had arranged the accommodation to support the education of his children.
Police said the student had returned to Sikar on Monday morning after dropping his mother at their native village. Later, his sister and brother reportedly found him hanging when they came back home.
Note recovered during investigation
Investigators said they recovered a note from the room, as per Hindustan Times. According to police, it read, “I am going far away. I do not know where I am going. Sorry!”
Officials suspect the student was under mental stress while preparing for his third NEET attempt, though the investigation is continuing.

Second such case in a month
The latest death comes weeks after another 22-year-old NEET aspirant in Sikar allegedly died by suicide while preparing for his third attempt at the examination.
Family members in that case said the student was deeply upset after the cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 despite performing well in the exam. Sikar, known as a major coaching hub for medical and engineering entrance examinations, has witnessed growing concern over student stress as uncertainty surrounding the NEET-UG examination continues.
