A new Pakistani television show has sparked online debate after viewers pointed out multiple factual errors and poor production quality. The show appears to be a direct response to India’s blockbuster spy franchise, Dhurandhar.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar was widely praised for its realistic depiction of espionage and Pakistan’s Lyari. Barring a few changes for dramatic effect, the director’s “peak detailing” earned the project critical acclaim. However, the reaction in Pakistan was negative. Many Pakistani viewers felt the film demonised their country and its spy agency, the ISI. The new Pakistani show seems to be a direct response to that.
About the Pakistani show
The series, Jahannum Ba’raasta Jannat, began airing on Green Entertainment Television on March 29. Directed and written by Iqbal Hussain, it stars Javed Sheikh, Momina Iqbal, and Umer Aalam. Javed Sheikh is known in Indian cinema for playing Shah Rukh Khan’s father in Om Shanti Om, as cited by Hindustan Times.

What the show is about
According to the Hindustan Times, the plot centres on India’s spy agency RAW. It shows the RAW chief planning to spread terrorism inside Pakistan to destabilise the country. One scene depicts senior RAW officials discussing how destabilising Pakistan is necessary to keep India intact.

Why viewers are mocking it
The show quickly drew ridicule online for its shoddy production values and weak detailing.
An X user shared a clip highlighting the show’s premise, writing, “The secretary of RAW and director of RAW are discussing how the Indian govt is forcing them to destabilise Pakistan through terrorism. Secretary of RAW says that without destabilising Pakistan, India might fall apart. This is a Pakistani show’s answer to Dhurandhar.”
A key complaint was that Indian characters spoke in chaste Urdu. “No Indian says ‘mazeed funds’. What a poor show,” one viewer wrote. Another said, “Maana ki aap logon ki film industry India se chalti Hai lekin aisi language Hamare yaha nahin bolte. Weak detailing.”
The portrayal of RAW officials also drew criticism for their looks and characterisation. “She looks more like a saas bahu serial vamp than a R&AW official. Dialogue isse ache hamare yaha youtuber likh dete h…R&AW doesn’t talk about akhand Bharat,” one viewer commented.
