India’s monsoon season is no longer considered an off-season for travel. Instead, it is becoming one of the country’s busiest tourism periods, with travellers increasingly seeking lush landscapes, misty hills and immersive nature experiences. Fresh travel data shows destinations across Kerala, the Northeast and popular hill stations witnessing a significant rise in bookings this rainy season.

According to Cleartrip’s latest Peekaboo Trends Tracker, Wayanad in Kerala has emerged as the country’s fastest-growing monsoon destination, recording an impressive 160% year-on-year increase in hotel bookings. The hill district, known for its waterfalls, tea plantations, forests and cool climate, has become a favourite among travellers looking to experience the beauty of the Western Ghats during the rains.
Monsoon travel demand surges across India
The report highlights a broader shift in travel habits. Hotel bookings during the monsoon have increased by over 54%, while bus bookings have witnessed a remarkable 140% jump, indicating that more Indians are embracing spontaneous rainy-season getaways rather than waiting for traditional holiday periods.

Industry experts say travellers are increasingly viewing the monsoon as an opportunity to enjoy scenic destinations at relatively lower prices while experiencing nature at its greenest. This trend has also contributed to a sharp rise in hotel occupancy across several popular destinations.
