The upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar has become the centre of online discussions after initial flight ticket prices released by IndiGo appeared higher than fares from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). The debate started soon after the airline opened bookings for its first commercial services from the airport, which is scheduled to begin operations from June 15.
The new airport has long been promoted as a major alternative aviation hub for the National Capital Region (NCR). Many travellers had expected ticket prices from Jewar to be lower than Delhi airport because of reduced congestion and the promise of increased connectivity for western Uttar Pradesh and nearby regions. However, the first set of fares displayed online left several passengers surprised.
Passengers compare fares online
IndiGo’s first routes from Jewar include connections between Noida, Lucknow and Bengaluru. Early searches by passengers reportedly showed fares for the Bengaluru route touching nearly ₹14,500 on certain dates, depending on seat availability and booking windows.

Soon after the fares surfaced online, social media users began comparing them with flights operating from Delhi’s IGI Airport. Some passengers claimed that tickets from Delhi to the same destinations were available at cheaper rates, questioning whether the new airport would truly offer a cost advantage.
Several posts discussing the issue gained attention online. Users pointed out that flights from Delhi to Lucknow and Bengaluru were, in some cases, cheaper than those departing from the upcoming Jewar airport. The fare comparisons quickly sparked a wider conversation among regular flyers and residents of NCR.
The fare gap between Jewar and IGI might not be as significant as initially believed. According to a report by The Times of India, comparisons across multiple routes showed that fares from Noida International Airport and Delhi IGI were mostly similar once factors such as booking dates, airline demand and dynamic pricing were considered.
According to the reports of News18 Aviation industry experts also noted that ticket prices during the launch phase of a new airport often remain volatile. Prices can fluctuate based on demand, promotional offers, limited seat inventory and competition between airlines.
IndiGo to lead operations from Jewar
IndiGo is expected to become the first airline to start commercial operations from the airport. Reports suggest the airline plans to gradually connect Jewar with more than 16 domestic destinations, including Hyderabad, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Srinagar, Jammu and Amritsar.

Located along the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district, Noida International Airport is expected to ease pressure on Delhi’s IGI Airport and improve air connectivity across the NCR and western Uttar Pradesh. Officials have also projected the airport as a major infrastructure project aimed at boosting travel, trade and economic activity in the region.
Even as fare comparisons continue online, the airport’s commercial launch remains one of the most closely watched developments in India’s aviation sector this year.
