India will host a key gathering of BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives on National Security in New Delhi from Monday, with discussions expected to centre on terrorism, regional conflicts and emerging security challenges.
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval will lead the two-day meeting, which comes ahead of the BRICS Summit scheduled to take place in India later this year. Senior security officials from member countries, including Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu, are expected to attend. Iran’s Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Nezamipour, is also likely to participate.
Focus on terrorism and regional security
The meeting is expected to address a range of pressing geopolitical developments. Government sources indicated that the security situation in West Asia, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and concerns related to terrorism are likely to feature prominently in the discussions.

India is also expected to highlight issues linked to cross-border terrorism, particularly activities affecting Jammu and Kashmir. The evolving tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan could be another topic of conversation among the participating countries.
Addressing new-age security threats
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the deliberations will revolve around the theme, “Non-traditional security challenges confronting the world today”.
Officials will exchange views on how rapidly changing technologies are influencing national security and creating new forms of threats. Delegates are also expected to review the outcomes of recent BRICS Joint Working Group meetings on Counter-Terrorism and Security in the Use of Information and Communication Technologies.
The review is aimed at strengthening cooperation among BRICS nations in responding to both traditional and emerging security concerns.
Preparations for BRICS summit
Ahead of the meeting, Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said Beijing would exchange views with fellow BRICS members on global and regional security issues as well as responses to conventional and non-conventional threats.
In a post on X, he said the discussions would help prepare politically for the BRICS Summit in September and expressed China’s willingness to deepen communication and coordination with member nations to enhance political and security cooperation.
Setting the stage for the September BRICS summit
The gathering takes place amid growing geopolitical tensions and differing viewpoints within the bloc on several international issues. BRICS currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
