CNG prices cross ₹80 in Delhi after second hike in 48 hours; IGL revises rates again

CNG prices in Delhi-NCR have gone up again, adding to the fuel burden on daily commuters. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) on Sunday announced a ₹1 per kg increase, marking the second revision within two days.

New rates in Delhi-NCR

With the latest revision, the price of CNG in Delhi now stands at ₹80.09 per kg, crossing the ₹80 threshold for the first time. In nearby cities, the revised rates are higher, with Noida and Ghaziabad seeing prices at ₹88.70 per kg.

This follows an earlier hike on May 15, when IGL had raised prices by ₹2 per kg. At that point, CNG in Delhi had moved up to ₹79.09 per kg.

Fuel costs rise across the board in Delhi

The increase in CNG prices comes alongside a recent uptick in petrol and diesel rates. Since May 15, petrol prices in Delhi have climbed by nearly ₹3, reaching ₹97.77 per litre. Diesel prices have also gone up, touching ₹90.67 per litre.

Rising crude oil prices in the international market are a key factor behind the upward trend in fuel rates. Tensions in West Asia have raised concerns about supply disruptions, especially along the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil and gas shipments. Any uncertainty in this corridor tends to push prices higher worldwide.

Centre reacts to rising fuel prices

Commenting on the situation, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “In many countries, petrol and diesel prices have increased from 20 per cent to nearly 100 per cent. In comparison, India has increased petrol prices by 3.2 per cent and diesel prices by 3.4 per cent.”

The latest hike is expected to directly affect millions of CNG users across Delhi-NCR. Auto-rickshaw drivers, cab operators, and public transport services are likely to feel the immediate impact. For regular commuters, the increase may translate into higher travel costs in the coming days.
