Sonam Wangchuk, the climate activist and education reformer, is currently on a hunger strike demanding the resignation of union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Amid this, an old post by Pradhan has resurfaced and gone viral online. Three years ago, Pradhan had shared a note on X after meeting Wangchuk and his wife Gitanjali Angmo, praising them for their work in education.

He wrote about having “wonderful conversations with Shri @Wangchuk66 and his wife Gitanjali J Angmo ji” and spoke highly of their passion and dedication towards transforming education, promoting experiential learning, building a culture of innovation, and encouraging sustainable development.

On July 20, the protest turned violent after police cracked down on the demonstrators. Following this, Pradhan posted a statement on X accusing the Congress party of using students for political gain.

He claimed the opposition was trying to turn the issue into a political matter instead of genuinely addressing student concerns.

This statement came soon after Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, was detained while holding a sit in protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence on 7 Lok Kalyan Marg.

Wangchuk shifted to Medanta hospital

Sonam Wangchuk had been picked up from Jantar Mantar last week and taken to a government hospital.
