The government has summoned Meta’s global affairs president Joel Kaplan and Instagram chief Adam Mosseri after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s video was restricted on the platform.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology sent the summons through email, as its India based policy team was unable to make the US team understand how serious the issue was, a senior official told HT.

According to the ministry, the Modi video removal is only one item on the agenda. The bigger concern is synthetically generated content on Meta’s platforms and the company’s compliance with Indian IT rules.
Meta’s response
The summons came soon after Meta put out a statement about the blocked video on Facebook.
A company spokesperson said, “The content was removed in error and has since been restored.” News agency PTI, quoting sources within Meta, reported that the removal happened because of a glitch in the platform’s automated content filters.

He spoke about the seriousness of the issue and said the government would bring in a bill to set up fast track courts and harsher punishment for those responsible.
