Monsoon not here yet: Rain, thunderstorms forecast for Delhi

Delhi-NCR is like to witness rain very soon yet southwest monsoon’s advance has slowed, delaying its arrival in the national capital.

Weather reports

Private weather service Skymet Weather reported that areas in Northern India have experienced a slowdown in the movement of the Southwest Monsoon. Because of this, it appears that there will be continued and increased weather activity in the area, but the Monsoon will most likely not enter Delhi on a “normal” schedule.

Intermittent rain, thunderstorms, and strong gusty winds are anticipated in the National Capital Region (NCR), as well as surrounding areas for the next few days due to pre-monsoon activity. This weather could temporarily cool off the hot, humid conditions that have persisted in Delhi NCR.

According to meteorologists as claimed by News 18, local weather systems together with moisture flows will be responsible for sporadic rainfall across northern India. Rainy periods will likely cool down temperatures throughout the region. Thus, residents may enjoy some relief from the oppressive heat.

Why is there a delay

Weather forecasts have changed because of an unusual halt in the progression of the monsoons from south to north across the country. Conditions still appear favourable for further rain to come, but the monsoon has already reached a stall over the north of India. As such, the expectation of seeing it in Delhi has now also passed.

According to Skymet Weather, there will still be some rain activity, but the showers are not considered the formal arrival time of the southwest monsoon in Delhi.

For now, Delhi will continue to be influenced by the weather systems that precede the monsoon with regards to better rain and storm activity, but residents will now have to start waiting for the formal arrival of the 2026 monsoon.
