According to News 18, the three majestic chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra have already been positioned outside the Jagannath Temple of Puri following the completion of traditional rituals. The ceremonial Chhera Pahanra, performed by the Gajapati Maharaja, will precede the start of Jagannath Rath Yatra 2026, after which the deities will begin their journey to the Gundicha Temple.

The atmosphere in Puri has turned festive, with devotees arriving in large numbers days before the procession. Authorities believe Jagannath Rath Yatra 2026 will witness one of the highest pilgrim turnouts in recent years, making crowd regulation a top priority.

Security and crowd control take centre stage

According to News 18, for Jagannath Rath Yatra 2026, more than 13,000 police personnel and multiple units of central armed forces have been deployed across Puri. Surveillance systems, including CCTV cameras, drones and anti-drone technology, are being used to monitor crowd movement in real time.

Officials have also introduced dedicated evacuation routes and restricted access around the chariots to prevent congestion. The focus on safety comes after the 2025 stampede near Gundicha Temple, which resulted in fatalities and injuries. Weather concerns and health monitoring remain key

According to News 18, apart from security, authorities are closely monitoring weather conditions ahead of Jagannath Rath Yatra 2026. The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of Puri, prompting emergency preparations to prevent waterlogging along the procession route.

Health officials have also increased surveillance due to recent Covid-19 cases reported in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Random testing and medical support teams have been deployed to ensure that Jagannath Rath Yatra 2026 proceeds without major disruptions.

With special trains, additional bus services and strengthened emergency response systems in place, officials hope Jagannath Rath Yatra 2026 will be remembered for its spiritual significance rather than logistical challenges.
