Residents of Delhi received some relief from the heat on Monday as rain accompanied by strong winds swept across several parts of the city. Light to moderate rainfall was recorded at multiple weather stations, leading to a slight dip in daytime temperatures.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Palam recorded the highest rainfall in the city till 5.30 pm, receiving 9.0 mm of precipitation. Ayanagar registered 4.6 mm of rainfall, while Safdarjung and Lodi Road reported trace amounts. No measurable rainfall was recorded at the Ridge observatory during the same period.

Temperatures remain close to seasonal average
Weather data showed that maximum temperatures across Delhi largely remained near normal despite the changing conditions.
Safdarjung, considered the city’s base weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius, one degree below the seasonal average. Palam also logged 37.5 degrees Celsius, while Lodi Road and Ayanagar recorded 37.8 degrees Celsius and 38 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The highest maximum temperature in the capital was reported at the Ridge observatory, where the mercury touched 38.8 degrees Celsius.
“Day temperatures were largely near normal. However, the 24-hour change in maximum temperatures remained marginally negative across most stations, indicating slight cooling due to rain,” officials said.
Minimum temperatures stay above normal at some locations
The minimum temperature at Safdarjung settled at 28.2 degrees Celsius, which was 0.7 degrees above normal. Palam recorded a cooler minimum of 25.4 degrees Celsius, while Lodi Road and Ridge registered 26 degrees Celsius and 25.5 degrees Celsius, respectively. Ayanagar recorded a minimum temperature of 26.6 degrees Celsius.
Thunderstorms and rain forecast for Tuesday
The IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by rain for Tuesday. The weather department expects the minimum and maximum temperatures to hover around 27 degrees Celsius and 38 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 151 at 4 pm on Monday, placing it in the “moderate” category, according to data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
