Shah Rukh Khan has secured a significant legal victory after the Supreme Court dismissed a petition challenging the Coastal Regulation Zone clearance granted for the Mannat expansion project. The ruling effectively removes the final legal hurdle for the renovation of the actor’s iconic sea-facing residence in Mumbai, where plans include adding two new floors.
The verdict brings an end to a dispute that had been continuing for months over the environmental approvals issued for the project. With the Supreme Court refusing to interfere, the existing CRZ clearance remains valid, allowing the Mannat expansion to move forward.
Mannat expansion gets Supreme Court approval
According to The Times of India, a Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, dismissed the appeal filed against the Coastal Regulation Zone approval. The petition questioned the decision of the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority to permit the renovation and proposed structural changes at the property.
During the hearing, the Bench expressed reservations over the credibility of the plea and declined to interfere with the earlier order passed by the National Green Tribunal. The decision effectively confirms that the approvals granted for the Mannat expansion comply with existing legal requirements.
The renovation project is expected to modernise sections of the residence while preserving the heritage character of the property, which has become one of Mumbai’s most recognisable landmarks.

Legal challenge finally comes to an end
According to The Times of India, the dispute originated after an environmental activist challenged the National Green Tribunal’s September 2025 decision, which had upheld the CRZ approval for the Mannat expansion. The petition alleged irregularities in the permission granted by the state coastal authority and sought fresh scrutiny of the project.
After the tribunal rejected those objections, the matter reached the Supreme Court. Tuesday’s ruling closes the legal proceedings, leaving the earlier NGT order undisturbed.
For Shah Rukh Khan, the judgment provides long-awaited clarity and enables the renovation work to proceed without further judicial intervention.

What the ruling means for Shah Rukh Khan
According to The Times of India, the Supreme Court verdict allows the Mannat expansion plans to move ahead as originally approved. Among the key changes proposed is the addition of two extra floors, which will increase the usable space within the property while complying with the conditions laid down by the authorities.
The actor’s residence has long been a landmark for fans and tourists visiting Mumbai. The approved renovation is expected to upgrade the property without altering its iconic identity.
With the legal uncertainty now resolved, the Mannat expansion is likely to begin its next phase, marking another chapter in the history of one of Bollywood’s most celebrated homes. The decision also reinforces the significance of statutory clearances in redevelopment projects located within coastal regulation zones.
