Commuters travelling through central Delhi on Monday evening may need to rethink their routes, with the Delhi Traffic Police flagging possible congestion in several key areas due to the announcement of election results. Large gatherings of party workers and political leaders are expected near the result centres, prompting authorities to put special traffic arrangements in place.
The advisory comes as counting concludes in multiple states, drawing crowds to central locations in the capital. With traffic movement likely to be affected, motorists have been asked to plan their journeys carefully and allow extra travel time.
Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg and nearby stretches under watch
The primary focus of restrictions is Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, where both carriageways are expected to witness heavy congestion until late evening. The stretch is a known hub for political party offices, making it a natural gathering point on election day.
Spillover traffic is likely to impact adjoining roads such as Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and ITO Chowk, two of the busiest arteries in the city. Police have indicated that diversions may be implemented at short notice depending on crowd movement and traffic density.

Alternate routes suggested for commuters
To ease the pressure on affected zones, authorities have recommended alternate routes, especially for those heading towards New Delhi Railway Station. Suggested options include routes via ITO towards Outer Circus and Chelmsford Road.
Motorists can also consider diversions through Kotla Cut, Mata Sundari Lane and Minto Road, or take the Delhi Gate and JLN Marg corridor, depending on their destination. These alternatives are expected to remain relatively less congested, though traffic flow will depend on real-time conditions.
