Water may soon become the newest luxury feature at high-end Indian weddings, as event planners and hospitality experts report growing interest in curated water bars that offer guests a range of premium mineral, spring, sparkling and glacier waters.

Long regarded as a basic necessity, water is now being marketed as an experiential product, including its tasting notes, mineral content and even source stories. Although the idea has been around for some time in some parts of Europe and fine dining, the concept is now getting recognition from the luxury wedding industry in India.

This was after the content creator Sakshi Shivdasani mentioned her attendance at a wedding where she came across a water bar which provided premium water to the guests instead of regular drinks.

Wellness and experience drive demand

Industry experts say changing consumer preferences are creating space for such concepts.

As per an India Today report, wedding planner Damini Oberoi said water bars can offer guests an interactive experience by introducing them to different categories of water sourced from around the world, including still, sparkling, mineral and artesian varieties.

Experts also point to the rise of wellness-focused lifestyles and the sober-curious movement among younger consumers. As more people reduce alcohol consumption, alternative beverage experiences are gaining popularity at social gatherings and celebrations.

Beyond hydration

Water sommeliers maintain that each water contains its own unique mix of minerals like calcium, magnesium and sodium. However, the medical professionals note that the minerals contained might differ, yet safety, quality and appropriateness of water types should always be prioritised.

Sustainability, premium packaging and conscious consumption are also becoming factors of increasing importance for purchasing decisions of the rich clients.
