England opener Ben Duckett delivered one of the finest ODI innings ever seen at Lord’s, smashing 141 off 135 balls against India in the third and final ODI. His match-winning knock not only guided England to a 27-run victory and a 2-1 series triumph but also broke Viv Richards’ 47-year-old record for the highest individual ODI score at the historic venue.

Ben Duckett scripts history at Lord’s

Ben Duckett etched his name into the history books with a magnificent 141 off 135 balls against India. The left-hander surpassed Viv Richards’ unbeaten 138, set in 1979, to register the highest individual ODI score at Lord’s.

Duckett batted with authority from the outset, combining elegant strokeplay with smart running between the wickets. He kept the scoreboard moving throughout his innings and gave England the perfect platform in the series decider.

Alongside Jacob Bethell, Duckett put on a 192-run opening partnership, the highest opening stand for England against India in ODI cricket. Bethell contributed a fluent 91 before falling short of a century, while Duckett continued to dominate until he was dismissed for 141.

England seal series with commanding win

Joe Root added an unbeaten 74 to maintain the momentum, while Jos Buttler hammered 41 not out from just 13 balls to lift England to 387/3, the highest ODI total ever recorded at Lord’s.

India made a strong start in reply through Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who shared a 147-run opening stand. Rohit scored a magnificent 138 and kept India in the hunt.

However, England fought back through Sam Curran, who claimed four key wickets to derail the chase. India eventually finished on 360/7, falling 27 runs short as England clinched the series 2-1.

Duckett’s memorable innings not only powered England to victory but also brought an end to one of Lord’s longest-standing ODI records, cementing his place in the ground’s rich cricketing history.
