Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed could be forced to choose between national duty and franchise cricket as the upcoming Test series against the West Indies overlaps with The Hundred in England.
The Hundred gets underway on July 21, while Pakistan’s first Test against the West Indies begins on July 25. If Abrar is selected for the two-match Test series, he is expected to miss the opening phase of the tournament after being denied a no-objection certificate (NOC) to play in England.
Pakistan call-up may rule out Hundred appearance
Abrar was signed by Sunrisers Leeds for £190,000 (around ₹2.3 crore) in The Hundred draft earlier this year. The mystery spinner was expected to play a key role for the franchise, but his availability now depends entirely on Pakistan’s squad announcement for the Caribbean tour.

According to NDTV report, Abrar and his representatives are waiting for the selectors’ decision before making any plans regarding his participation in The Hundred.

If included in the Test squad, representing Pakistan is expected to take priority over his franchise commitments.
Franchise signing had already drawn attention
Abrar’s signing by Sunrisers Leeds had sparked debate when it was announced, as the franchise is owned by the Sun Group, which also owns Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. The move drew criticism from some sections of Indian cricket fans, but the deal went ahead after the England and Wales Cricket Board made it clear that Pakistani players would not be excluded from the competition.

Now, the scheduling conflict has created fresh uncertainty over Abrar’s participation. While Sunrisers Leeds hope to have one of their marquee signings available for the tournament, Pakistan’s selectors are believed to be considering the leg-spinner for the Test series in the West Indies.
