Shubman Gill has moved one step closer to reclaiming the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings after his match-winning performance against England in the first ODI. The 26-year-old now has 803 rating points and is just 11 points behind New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who continues to occupy the No. 1 position with 814 points. With two ODIs still remaining in the series, Gill has a golden opportunity to overtake Mitchell and return to the top of the batting rankings.

Gill has enjoyed a remarkable run in the 50-over format over the past few years and has consistently delivered at the top of the order. His latest innings once again highlighted his ability to anchor a chase under pressure.

Washington Sundar also improved his position in both the batting and all-rounder rankings after remaining unbeaten during India’s successful chase.
