Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the game after former India Under-19 World Cup winner Manjot Kalra was arrested in connection with an alleged match-fixing case linked to the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL).

Kalra, who is also a co-owner of the Jaffna Kings franchise, was taken into custody by Sri Lanka’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) for the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports. He was later produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody until July 31. Authorities are investigating allegations that he attempted to influence a player through corrupt means.

Sri Lanka Cricket extends full support

Following the arrest, Sri Lanka Cricket issued a statement confirming that it will fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation.

The board said it has a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and remains committed to protecting the credibility of the sport. SLC added that it would provide all necessary assistance to investigators and continue supporting efforts to ensure fair play in the Lanka Premier League.

The governing body also stressed that safeguarding the integrity of cricket remains one of its highest priorities.

Investigation continues

Kalra rose to prominence after scoring an unbeaten century in the final of the 2018 ICC Under-19 World Cup, helping India lift the title. Earlier this year, he became one of the owners of the Jaffna Kings franchise in the Lanka Premier League.

The alleged corruption case has now placed the tournament under increased scrutiny, with Sri Lanka’s anti-corruption authorities leading the investigation. Officials have not disclosed further details as the probe is still underway.

At present, the allegations remain under investigation and no verdict has been reached. Kalra will remain in judicial custody until July 31 unless further orders are issued by the court.

Sri Lanka Cricket has reiterated that it will continue working closely with the authorities throughout the investigation and will take every necessary step to uphold the integrity and reputation of the game.
