With the Zimbabwe vs India series ongoing, Indian team seeking for answers.Indian Cricket has seen a lot of ups and downs since Goutam Gambhir took charge; the new discussion over India’s performance in the Ireland and England series has sparked major questions. A settled team under Surya Kumar Yadav’s captaincy conquered the world but struggled under Shreyas Iyer.  The continuity, which remained one of the constants in management suddenly disrupted. The transition phase, which once hampered India’s test performance, is now also costing the T20I performance; the performance against Ireland and England felt really unknown to the fans. With the first win against Zimbabwe, the Indian T20I team under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer is finding its oxygen.

Indian selectors chose to send an inexperienced team for the series; players like Sanju Samson and Arshdeep Singh got rest for this series. In the absence of Sanju, the wonder boy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi came as an opener and hammered a 19-ball fifty, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the youngest player to smash a fifty in Indian colours. Ashok Sharma, the Indian pace sensation, also made his debut for India; the pace gun Mayank Yadav also made his first appearance for the national side in 2024.

With a lot of things to fall into place, the Indian T20I side has many questions to answer.

India needs focus and stability more than anything

The three-time World Cup champions are currently going through too many changes, from the dressing room scenes to the ground display; both remained grey.

The failure to translate performance into the pitch is nothing but a constant pressure of insecurity among the players. With India having a lot of players warming and waiting on the bench, the pressure of insecurity increases. Indian management fails to give security among the players.

IPL players getting direct chances

One thing has remained India’s problem since the inauguration of the IPL; it is the high-performance players of the league.

The ones who get direct entry in the team have always failed to perform well because of inexperience; for example, Mayank Yadav and Umran Malik both of them remained out of the team for a long time. It’s the management who needs to decide whether they want these players or not. Data-driven team-making has proven costly oftentimes.

Zimbabwe vs India: What can India gain from the series?

India still has plenty to gain from this series. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can gain more experience at the international level, while Ravi Bishnoi, who has not played that many matches, can get valuable game time. Fast bowlers Mayank Yadav and Ashok Sharma can learn more about handling pressure and adapting to international cricket. The match is also important for Tilak Varma and captain Shreyas Iyer, who will be looking to return to form. A strong performance will help India build confidence and prepare better for the challenges ahead.
