Clashes near the Obelisk

Trouble started near the Obelisk, the famous national monument in the middle of Buenos Aires. Media reports say fans threw glass bottles and other objects at the police, who responded with tear gas and water cannon to disperse the crowd. Around 15 people were detained during the unrest.

Scaloni proud despite the defeat

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni said he was proud of his team even though the loss was hard to take.

Speaking after the 1-0 extra time defeat at MetLife Stadium, he asked his players to accept the loss with the same grace they showed in their wins.

“I feel sadness now; but above all, I have an eternal gratitude to these boys, because getting this far takes a tremendous amount. We’re great in victory and we have to be great in defeat, and we remember what we’ve done. We gave everything,” Scaloni said, as quoted by AFA’s official account on X.
