Brazil suffer Neymar blow ahead of crucial Haiti World Cup clash

Brazil’s preparations for their crucial FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C encounter against Haiti have suffered another setback, with Neymar unlikely to return in time for the match as he continues his recovery from a calf injury.

The 34-year-old forward has taken positive steps in rehabilitation and recently returned to light training with the squad in the United States. However, reports suggest the Brazilian star is still not ready for full competitive action, leaving coach Carlo Ancelotti without one of his most influential players for another key fixture. Brazil’s medical staff are prioritising Neymar’s long-term fitness rather than rushing him back into action.

Brazil remain cautious over Neymar’s recovery

Neymar has not featured since suffering a right calf injury shortly before the tournament began. While he has resumed on-field exercises and limited ball work, he has yet to participate in full tactical sessions with the rest of the squad.

The Brazilian Football Confederation is reportedly taking a cautious approach, hoping the veteran attacker can recover fully for the knockout stages rather than risking further damage during the group phase. Some reports even suggest Neymar could miss all three group-stage matches if his rehabilitation does not progress as expected.

Brazil opened their World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against Morocco, increasing the importance of their upcoming meeting with Haiti. Ancelotti’s side cannot afford another slip-up if they are to maintain control of their qualification hopes in Group C.

Haiti’s opportunity as Brazil seeks first win

Haiti entered the contest determined to prove they belong on football’s biggest stage. The Caribbean nation has already made it clear that it is not at the tournament simply to make up the numbers and will view Brazil’s injury concerns as an opportunity.

For Brazil, the focus now shifts to securing three points without their talisman. While Neymar’s gradual return to training offers encouragement, the five-time world champions appear unwilling to take risks with their star player as they balance immediate results with their long-term World Cup ambitions.
