Aston Villa have completed the loan signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea for the remainder of the 2026-27 season, with the move expected to become permanent if agreed conditions are met.

Chelsea confirmed that the Argentina international has already signed a four-year contract with Villa, which will come into effect if the obligation to buy is triggered next summer. While neither club disclosed the exact terms, the clause is believed to depend on performance-related conditions, including appearances. Chelsea expect the deal to reach their original £43 million valuation.

Unai Emery welcomes Garnacho to Villa Park

Villa manager Unai Emery expressed his delight after securing the 22-year-old winger. “He is so talented, young and he showed us his wish to help our project. We are really happy,” Emery said. 

Garnacho becomes Villa’s fourth signing of the transfer window following the arrivals of Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes and Modou Keba Cisse.

The move comes shortly after Villa sold Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for a club-record £117 million. The Midlands club has also parted ways with Youri Tielemans, Donyell Malen, Enzo Barrenechea and Lewis Dobbin, with total player sales nearing £200 million this summer.

Chelsea reshape squad after Garnacho exit

Chelsea signed Garnacho from Manchester United for £40 million last September but decided to move him on after just one season.

The winger managed one Premier League goal during his time at Stamford Bridge. The arrivals of Morgan Rogers and Sporting winger Geovany Quenda increased competition in the squad and influenced Chelsea’s decision to sanction his departure.

Manchester United are also expected to benefit financially, with reports stating they are entitled to 10 per cent of any future transfer fee.

Fresh opportunity for Argentine winger

Garnacho now gets the chance to revive his form under Emery after attracting interest from Roma before choosing Villa. The structure of the deal also allows Villa to manage spending while remaining mindful of Premier League and UEFA financial regulations.

Last season, Garnacho registered one goal and four assists in 24 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, while finishing with eight goals in 43 matches across all competitions. Before that, he scored 16 goals and provided eight assists in 93 games for Manchester United.

Villa have previously brought in attackers such as Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Harvey Elliott on temporary deals with mixed outcomes. Garnacho will now look to make a stronger impact as he begins the next chapter of his career at Villa Park.
