Yellow alert over Ahmedabad: What does it mean for the IPL 2026 final?

The IPL final at Ahmedabad has not been in clear weather since the last fixture in 2023. And whenever it comes to Gujarat Titans, the weather plays a role against them during the final match of the tournament.

In the 2023 IPL final held between CSK and GT, the rain washed out the match on the scheduled date postponing it to reserve day. Even then, the weather made a threat shortening the match to 15-over, though suffering a loss. Again, in 2026 Gujarat back in the final facing the defending champions RCB and Ahmedabad set once again to face the possibility of rain.

In 2026, however, Gujarat could face difficulties for their second IPL title by the influence of weather.

Ahmedabad’s forecast

On Sunday morning, Ahmedabad’s sky was clear with temperatures cruising above 40 degrees Celsius. Yet, the local meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for parts of Gujarat, with expected rain activity in and around Ahmedabad. Though the forecasts do not indicate any major disruption during match hours, except a slight possibility of rain.

As said by meteorological experts, weather remains freaky, particularly at this time of year, with chances of rain being undeniable during the final.

Will heavy-rain turn out the IPL 2026 final to reserve day?

In the final match of IPL 26, rain will not be a havoc to abandon the final while the match officials will do their best to complete a full game as possible after studying the weather condition.

If delays persist, overs will be reduced to 15 overs. If more worse happens, the match will be brought to a minimum of five-over contest per side required for a quick-match, which must begin before the revised cut-off time at 11:55 PM IST.

And if the weather abandons the match on the scheduled day, the IPL 2026 final will be postponed to the reserve day on Monday, June 1. With any probability of showering on the reserve day, the team who was at the top of the table in league stage will be declared as the champions of IPL 2026, which would be easier for RCB to lift the trophy for the second time in a row.
