India has unveiled a 126-member athlete contingent for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with a blend of Olympic medallists, world champions and promising youngsters set to represent the country. Scheduled from July 23 to August 2, the Games will feature only 10 sports in a reduced format. Despite the smaller programme, India will be aiming for another strong performance by relying on its proven medal winners across key disciplines.

Olympic javelin champion Neeraj Chopra headlines the Indian squad and is expected to be one of the country’s biggest medal contenders in athletics. Weightlifting icon Mirabai Chanu returns to the Commonwealth Games looking to add another medal to her impressive collection.

India’s boxing team also boasts strong medal prospects with world champion Nikhat Zareen and Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain leading the charge. In badminton, Lakshya Sen will carry the country’s hopes after establishing himself as one of the leading players on the international circuit.

Apart from these established names, several young athletes have earned their place in the contingent following consistent performances at national and international events, giving India added depth across multiple disciplines.

Reduced programme brings fresh challenges for Commonwealth Games 2026

The 2026 Commonwealth Games will be different from previous editions, with sports such as wrestling, hockey and cricket not included in the competition schedule. This means India’s medal campaign will largely depend on athletics, boxing, badminton, weightlifting, table tennis, squash and para sports.

The 126 athletes are part of a larger Indian delegation that includes coaches, support staff and officials. The squad has undergone extensive preparation through national training camps, overseas exposure tours and government-backed high-performance programmes.
