India outclass Bangladesh 3-0, seals top spot in SAFF Women’s Championship

India produced a memorable performance in the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026, defeating defending champion Bangladesh 3-0 in a crucial Group B encounter in Goa. The victory helped the hosts finish at the top of the group and sent a strong message to the rest of the tournament.

India rises to the occasion

The clash was billed as one of the biggest matches of the group stage. Bangladesh entered the contest as the reigning champion and had enjoyed success against India in recent years. However, the hosts delivered one of their best performances of the tournament to secure a convincing win.

India started on the front foot and maintained control for large periods of the game. The team combined attacking intent with defensive discipline, making it difficult for Bangladesh to settle into the match. Once India found the opening goal, confidence grew within the side as it continued to create chances and apply pressure.

Bangladesh struggled to respond to India’s intensity and was unable to break through a well-organised defensive unit. The hosts remained composed throughout the contest and added further goals to complete a dominant 3-0 victory.

Perfect boost before the knockouts

The result continued India’s impressive campaign after its emphatic win over Maldives earlier in the tournament. With two convincing victories in the group stage, the team has built strong momentum heading into the knockout rounds.

Beyond securing top spot, the win also carried added significance as it came against the defending champions. India not only ended Bangladesh’s unbeaten run in the competition but also reinforced its status as one of the favourites for the title.

As the tournament enters its decisive phase, India will take confidence from a performance that showcased both attacking quality and defensive strength. Bangladesh, meanwhile, remains a dangerous side despite the setback and will look to bounce back in the knockout stage.

For India, the victory represents another important step in its quest to reclaim the SAFF Women’s Championship crown and end its recent title drought.
