Google is taking another major step in the evolution of Search by introducing AI-powered agents that can actively monitor the internet on behalf of users and deliver updates when new information becomes available.
The feature, known as Information Agents, is being rolled out through Google’s AI Mode and is currently available to subscribers of the company’s premium AI offering. Instead of requiring users to search for the same information repeatedly, the new system can continuously track developments online and notify them when something relevant happens.
The launch reflects Google’s broader ambition to transform Search from a tool that simply answers questions into one that actively works behind the scenes for users.
Search that keeps working after the query ends
According to The Indian Express, traditional search engines require users to revisit the same topic multiple times to stay informed. Google’s new Information Agents are designed to eliminate that repetitive process.
Users can activate an agent by entering prompts such as “keep me updated on” or “alert me when” within AI Mode. Once assigned a task, the agent continues scanning the internet in the background.
Google says these agents can monitor a wide range of sources, including news websites, blogs, social media platforms, financial information, shopping portals and live sports updates. When meaningful changes occur, the system compiles the information into a summary and delivers it directly to the user.

From apartment hunting to product launches
According to The Indian Express, Google demonstrated several practical use cases for the technology during its presentation.
Someone searching for a new apartment can instruct the AI agent to track listings that meet specific criteria. Instead of manually checking property websites every day, the user receives an alert whenever a suitable listing appears.
The same approach can be applied to product launches, stock market developments, sports announcements or celebrity collaborations. For example, a user could ask an agent to monitor an athlete’s upcoming sneaker releases and receive updates as soon as new information becomes public.
Unlike traditional alerts that operate on fixed schedules, Google’s agents use AI reasoning to determine what information matters and when it should be surfaced.

Google’s push toward an AI-first future
According to The Indian Express, the rollout highlights Google’s growing focus on agentic AI, a category of AI designed to perform tasks independently rather than simply respond to instructions.
As competition intensifies among major technology companies, AI agents are emerging as one of the industry’s most important battlegrounds. The goal is to create systems capable of handling ongoing tasks with minimal human involvement.
For now, the feature is available only through Google’s AI Ultra subscription tier, which targets power users seeking advanced AI capabilities. While access remains limited, the technology offers a glimpse into how search engines may evolve over the coming years.
