After more than a decade of anticipation, Rockstar Games is finally set to release Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19. The next chapter in one of gaming’s most successful franchises is expected to dominate the industry conversation for months. Yet for millions of players around the world, launch day could be an exercise in frustration rather than celebration.
Despite the enormous demand surrounding the game, Rockstar’s release strategy means a significant portion of the gaming community will not be able to access GTA 6 when it launches. The decision mirrors the company’s approach with previous blockbuster titles, prioritising consoles before expanding to other platforms.
The result is that many fans who have waited years for the game’s arrival may have to wait even longer.
PC gamers face an uncertain wait
According to The Times of India, the biggest group left out at launch will be PC players. Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 will debut only on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S.
A PC version has not been announced, and Rockstar has not provided any timeline for a potential release. The company followed a similar strategy with previous titles, including GTA 5, which arrived on PC long after its initial console debut.
For gamers who primarily play on computers, that means there is currently no official way to experience GTA 6 on launch day. Unless Rockstar changes course, millions of PC users worldwide will be forced to wait for further announcements.

Regional restrictions could limit access
According to The Times of India, geography may also determine who gets to play. Players in Russia could face additional challenges due to the business decisions of Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive.
The publisher does not currently sell its games in Russia, making an official launch in the country unlikely under existing policies. Reports have also suggested that regulatory hurdles could further complicate access should sales eventually resume.
For gamers in affected regions, even owning the correct hardware may not guarantee access to the title.

Online rules may create another barrier
According to The Times of India, although Rockstar has not yet fully revealed its online plans, most industry observers expect a major multiplayer component to accompany GTA 6, building on the extraordinary success of GTA Online.
However, new digital safety regulations being introduced in several countries may create fresh obstacles. Some jurisdictions are introducing mandatory age-verification systems for online gaming services.
Countries such as Australia are already moving towards stricter verification requirements. Depending on local laws, younger players or users unwilling to complete verification checks could face restrictions when accessing multiplayer features.
As these regulations continue to expand globally, the number of players affected could grow substantially by the time GTA 6 arrives.
For now, the message from Rockstar is straightforward: on November 19, GTA 6 will be available only to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S owners in supported markets, leaving many eager fans watching from the sidelines while others finally step into the next generation of Grand Theft Auto.
