The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has announced a mega student rally and convention in Kolkata on July 14, commemorating the organisation’s 78th Foundation Day and the 150th anniversary of the composition of Vande Mataram.
The announcement was made during a press conference held on Sunday at the ABVP Paschimbanga State Office in Kolkata. The convention will be addressed by ABVP National General Secretary Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki, who will attend as the chief speaker.

According to the organisation, the main rally will begin from Shyambazar Five-Point Crossing and proceed towards College Street. Two additional processions from different parts of Kolkata will also converge at College Street, where the mass student convention will take place.
ABVP said it expects around 10,000 students from colleges and universities across Kolkata to participate in the programme.
The press conference was addressed by ABVP Central Working Committee Member Shubhabrata Adhikary, State Secretary Neelkantha Bhattacharya, State Media Convener Ananta Barui, and Kolkata Mahanagar Secretary Swadhin Haldar.
Why is ABVP organising the July 14 rally?
Addressing the media, Shubhabrata Adhikary said the programme is being organised to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram and National Students’ Day, observed by ABVP on July 9.
“Kolkata has always been the educational and cultural capital of Bengal. The primary objective of this programme is to further strengthen nationalist consciousness among students and reinforce the demand for a healthy, academic and student-friendly environment across college campuses,” Adhikary said.
Membership drive sees strong response, says ABVP
State Secretary Neelkantha Bhattacharya said the organisation’s membership campaign, launched on the occasion of its 78th Foundation Day, received a strong response, with more than 44,000 new members enrolling in West Bengal on the first day.
“We are committed to achieving our target of enrolling one million members in the state. The principal objective of the July 14 convention is to unite the student community and organise them around the demand for safe, healthy and education-friendly campuses,” he said.

Kolkata Mahanagar Secretary Swadhin Haldar said the convention would strengthen ABVP’s organisational presence across educational institutions in Kolkata.
