After a short break from the heat, South Bengal is once again staring at uncomfortable weather conditions. With rain staying away for now, temperatures are expected to rise across the region even as North Bengal braces for widespread showers and cooler days ahead.
Kolkata woke up to bright sunshine on Tuesday, with clear skies and rising humidity making conditions increasingly uncomfortable. With no rain forecast in the immediate future, residents are likely to face several more days of hot and sticky weather.
According to the latest observations, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 28.8 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which was 1 degree above normal. The maximum temperature settled at 35.7 degrees Celsius, marginally below normal by 0.1 degrees.

Temperatures likely to rise across several South Bengal districts
Weather officials have warned that temperatures could climb further in multiple districts of South Bengal. Over the next few days, the mercury may rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in some areas, making conditions increasingly uncomfortable.
Despite the prevailing dry spell, there is a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and rain towards the end of the week. Districts that may receive rainfall include North and South 24 Parganas, Purulia, Bankura, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia and Purba Medinipur.
Kolkata, too, may witness light showers later in the week if the forecast holds.

Pre-monsoon rain set to intensify in North Bengal
While South Bengal deals with rising temperatures, North Bengal is expected to experience a wetter spell. The weather department has forecast the onset of pre-monsoon rain from Tuesday evening or night across several northern districts.
Rainfall activity is likely to increase further as the week progresses, with scattered heavy showers expected in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri.
The expected rain is also likely to bring down temperatures across North Bengal. Meteorologists have said that daytime temperatures in the region could drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius during the week, providing much-needed relief from the recent warm conditions.
