After days of widespread rainfall, Kolkata saw a clear and sunny start to Saturday. While the sunshine offered a break from persistent rain, it also brought back uncomfortable humidity. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is no forecast of heavy rain in Kolkata or most parts of south Bengal at present. However, the high moisture content in the air is expected to make conditions feel hot and sticky through the day.

The city woke up to bright sunshine on Saturday morning, but that does not rule out the possibility of rain later in the day. The IMD has forecast light to moderate showers at isolated places in Kolkata. Although widespread heavy rainfall is unlikely for now, humidity is expected to remain high, making outdoor conditions uncomfortable.
Saturday’s minimum temperature in Kolkata was recorded at 27.7 degrees Celsius, which is 0.8 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature is likely to touch 31 degrees Celsius, around 1.8 degrees below the seasonal average.

South Bengal likely to remain humid
Weather conditions across south Bengal are expected to stay largely similar over the next few days. The IMD has not predicted heavy rainfall in the region for now, but several districts could witness scattered light to moderate rain.
Districts including East Midnapore, West Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, Paschim Bardhaman and Birbhum are likely to receive rainfall at isolated locations. Light showers are also possible in the remaining districts. In some areas, rain may be accompanied by gusty winds.
With rainfall activity reducing across south Bengal, humidity levels are expected to increase, leading to muggy weather in many places.

Heavy rain warning remains for north Bengal
In contrast to south Bengal, rain is expected to continue across several districts of north Bengal. The weather office has forecast heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms in multiple areas.
A red alert has been issued for Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar, while Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Cooch Behar remain under an orange alert. Scattered heavy rainfall is also likely over Malda, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur.
The IMD said rainfall is expected to continue in many parts of north Bengal for the time being. However, the intensity of rain may gradually ease towards the end of the week.
