Who is eligible for Annapurna Yojana? Bengal govt shares key rules

The West Bengal government has issued the official notification for the ‘Annapurna Yojana’, sparking curiosity among residents about eligibility and the application process. Since the announcement, many people have been visiting banks for clarification. However, the guidelines indicate that the process is relatively straightforward.

No fresh application for existing beneficiaries

Women who are already receiving benefits under the ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’ scheme will not have to submit a new application. The system is designed to automatically extend the benefits without additional paperwork for this group.

Understanding DBT and bank requirements

The notification mentions ‘DBT’, which stands for Direct Benefit Transfer. This means the financial assistance will be directly credited to the beneficiary’s bank account, similar to the existing Lakshmir Bhandar payments. To ensure smooth transactions, Aadhaar linkage with the bank account is mandatory. If any KYC updates are required, beneficiaries can check with their respective banks.

Who can apply?

Women between the ages of 25 and 60 who are not currently receiving Lakshmir Bhandar benefits are eligible to apply. The state government is expected to launch a dedicated online portal for fresh applications.

Eligibility conditions

Certain criteria must be met to qualify for the scheme. Applicants must be valid residents of West Bengal and should not be income tax payers, meaning their annual income should not exceed ₹7 lakh. Additionally, individuals whose names have been removed from the voter list due to reasons such as death, duplication, being untraceable, or relocation will not be eligible.

Special cases mentioned

The notification also states that individuals who have applied under the Citizenship Amendment Act or have pending appeals at the relevant tribunals will still be considered eligible for the scheme.

Lack of clarity for existing beneficiaries

It remains unclear whether all the newly listed eligibility conditions will apply to current Lakshmir Bhandar beneficiaries, as the notification does not specifically address this point.

Overall, the scheme aims to streamline benefit distribution while expanding its reach to new eligible applicants through a structured and direct system.
