A protest by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) outside Nakashipara Government ITI College in Nadia on Thursday turned tense after a clash reportedly broke out during the demonstration. The student organisation alleged that government seats at the institute were being sold at high prices through an illegal racket and demanded an investigation into the matter.
According to ABVP, members of its Bethuadahari College Unit staged a protest in front of the college gate to raise concerns over alleged irregularities in the admission process. The organisation claimed that government seats were being commercialised, depriving deserving students of fair access to education.
Protest disrupted, ABVP alleges attack
ABVP alleged that while the demonstration was underway, a group of individuals attempted to disrupt the protest and prevent students from continuing their agitation. The organisation described the protest as peaceful and said the disruption led to a confrontation in which several of its activists were injured.
Those reportedly injured include Surojit Barman, ABVP’s Nadia Bivag Pramukh; Rakesh Biswas, Zilla Sanyojak of Nadia North; Rishita Roy, Zilla Girls Incharge; and Ajay Sarkar, Zilla Social Media Convener.
The organisation condemned the incident and termed it an attack on students who were exercising their democratic right to protest.
Demand for investigation and legal action
ABVP has demanded immediate legal action against those allegedly involved in the incident. The organisation claimed that some of the alleged attackers have been identified as Surajit Bhowmik, Sanjit Mondal and Prabir Ghosh, while the identities of several others are yet to be established.

Reacting to the incident, ABVP State Secretary Dr. Neelkantha Bhattacharya said, “The attack on peaceful student protesters exposes the desperation of those who seek to protect corruption and exploitation within educational institutions. Such intimidation tactics will not deter ABVP from its commitment to safeguarding students’ rights.”
He called for a fair investigation into the alleged seat-selling racket and urged authorities to ensure transparency and accountability in the admission process.
ABVP said it would continue to pursue the matter through democratic means and maintain its campaign against alleged corruption in educational institutions.
