Major split brewing in TMC? Sources claim 90% of Lok Sabha MPs might be in rebellion

Fresh signs of unrest have emerged within the Trinamool Congress parliamentary party, with a large chunk of party MPs reportedly moving towards forming a separate bloc in the Lok Sabha.

According to sources, more than a dozen dissident TMC MPs met at the residence of senior BJP leader Bhupender Yadav at 9 Motilal Nehru Marg in New Delhi on Monday. Sources claimed that discussions centred on the future course of action for the group and the possibility of seeking separate recognition within Parliament.

Dissident TMC MPs may seek separate seating arrangement

Sources in the BJP claimed that a significant section of TMC’s Lok Sabha MPs has expressed dissent against the party leadership. They further alleged that the numbers required to form a separate parliamentary group are available and that a decision could be taken at an appropriate time.

According to sources, the dissident MPs are expected to submit a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking a separate seating arrangement in the House.

Reports indicate that around 20 TMC MPs may support the move. Sources also claimed that TMC MP Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar could lead the proposed group.

Sources further said that Suvendu Adhikari was present at the meeting for a brief period before leaving, while discussions among the dissident MPs continued.

Sharmila Sarkar speaks on the move

Speaking to the media, Sharmila Sarkar confirmed that a letter would be submitted to the Speaker seeking separate seating arrangements in the Lok Sabha.

She said the group wanted to work towards development and claimed that West Bengal has fallen behind in several fields.

Sarkar also stated that there were several developments within the Trinamool Congress that she did not agree with. According to her, concerns regarding those issues had earlier been communicated to the party’s top leadership through a letter.

She alleged that no action was taken despite raising those concerns, which ultimately prompted the group to take the current step.
