Suvendu Adhikari cuts convoy size, follows PM Modi’s fuel-saving move amid global price concerns

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday announced a reduction in the number of vehicles in his official convoy, aligning with a similar step taken earlier by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking outside the Assembly, Adhikari said the decision was taken after the Prime Minister called for fuel conservation in view of the evolving global situation.

‘I welcome the Prime Minister’s decision’

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said, “I welcome the Prime Minister’s decision to save fuel. He has thought from Swachh Bharat to Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas. The steps he has taken are for the country, for the people of the country. So I have also informed the DGP about my convoy. You can see that accordingly. I have asked to keep the minimum required and remove the rest of the vehicles from the convoy.”

He indicated that instructions have already been passed on to the state police leadership to implement the change.

Fuel-saving push gains traction among states

The move follows a directive from Narendra Modi, who recently scaled down his convoy by nearly 50 per cent as part of a broader effort to reduce fuel consumption.

The step comes against the backdrop of tensions in West Asia, which are expected to push up fuel prices in international markets.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also adopted a similar approach, trimming the size of his convoy in line with the Prime Minister’s call.

With West Bengal now joining in, multiple states appear to be responding to the Centre’s message on fuel conservation.
