‘They want to kill me’: Abhishek Banerjee’s explosive claim after Sonarpur chaos, BJP denies any link

Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday alleged that he was manhandled during a visit to Sonarpur, where he had gone to meet the family of a slain party worker.

According to reports from the spot, Abhishek encountered intense protests while travelling to the residence of the deceased worker. Amid the commotion, he was allegedly pushed and jostled by protesters and was seen wearing a helmet for protection.

After reaching the house, Abhishek met the victim’s parents and spoke about the incident.

‘They want to kill me’: Abhishek’s strong remarks

Reacting to the alleged attack, Abhishek claimed that those involved wanted to physically harm him.

“They want to kill me. Let them do it. Let my dead body be recovered from here. But I will not leave this place. I will not abandon Sanju’s elderly parents in this condition until security forces arrive.”

He also said he would remain at the location until action was taken against those responsible. “Even if it is midnight, I will stay here.”

Questions raised over security presence

Abhishek alleged that no police personnel were present when he was being harassed. He asked party workers to contact the local police station and seek additional deployment of security forces.

Soon after, personnel from the central security forces were seen entering the area. Police from Sonarpur Police Station and a large contingent from Baruipur Police District also reached the spot.

The house where Abhishek was staying was later surrounded by security personnel. After some time, central security forces and Sonarpur Police escorted him out of the area.

BJP rejects allegations, says party not involved

Responding to the incident, BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya denied any involvement of his party.

“The BJP is not involved in this.”

He said the BJP does not support such incidents of harassment.

Samik Bhattacharya’s counterattack on TMC

Taking a swipe at the ruling Trinamool Congress, Bhattacharya claimed that if the BJP had chosen to retaliate for what he alleged TMC had done in South 24 Parganas, Trinamool leaders would not have been able to step out onto the streets.

He further stated that Abhishek Banerjee was able to reach Sonarpur because the BJP had exercised restraint.

The incident has triggered a fresh political confrontation between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP, with both sides trading accusations over the events that unfolded in Sonarpur on Saturday.
