The trailer of Ramayana: Part 1, set to hit theatres this Diwali, is finally out after a delay, and has left fans curious about several characters displayed in the trailer. One of the most notable of them is the white elephant called Airavata.
Who is Airavata?
According to Hindu mythology, Airavata is a divine white elephant who serves as the mount or vahana of Lord Indra, the king of devas and the deity of storms and rainfall. Just like Indra, Airavata is closely associated with clouds, rain and Indra’s celestial realm and is also called Abhramatanga and Nagayanti in various traditions.

Despite being associated with Indra, Airavata’s appearance in Ramayana: Part 1 trailer is done to expand the cinematic universe beyond the immediate story of Ram, Sita and Ravana. In the trailer, Ravana is seen battling Airavata, depicting the former as a force capable of challenging even the celestial realm.

The trailer features the chaos and destruction caused by Ravana and hence, lord Vishnu takes the avatar of Ram to restore balance and protect the earth. Ranbir Kapoor plays the role of Ram, Sai Pallavi stars as Sita and Yash portrays Ravana.
