Actor-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, is set to hit theatres on July 23, nearly seven months after its original release date. During the delay, the political drama underwent several modifications that now reflect Vijay’s new public role following his electoral victory.
The film now includes multiple references to Vijay’s political journey, including nods to his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), and an updated title card introducing him as the “Honourable Tamil Nadu CM” instead of the customary “Thalapathy Vijay” used in his previous films.

The film was initially scheduled for release in January but was delayed after it failed to secure certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). It has now received clearance and is releasing this week.

One of the most noticeable additions is Vijay’s signature hand-slashing gesture featured in the promotional song Raavana Mavandaa. The gesture mirrors one he made in the Tamil Nadu Assembly earlier this year, creating a symbolic connection between his political life and on-screen persona.
The makers also incorporated direct references to TVK into the final version of the film. In addition, the CBFC directed the producers to make nearly 20 seconds of cuts, replace around 10 seconds of footage, and mute certain religious references before granting certification.
The film is directed by H. Vinoth, with music by Anirudh Ravichander and lyrics by Vivek for the promotional track.
