New Tamil releases get green signal for 5 daily shows under CM Vijay’s order

C. Joseph Vijay, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, has announced a new order authorizing theaters to run five screenings of recently released Tamil films each day. On May 16, the decision was made following talks with Tamil film industry officials.

Tamil Nadu’s new CM, C. Joseph Vijay, has issued a new order permitting theaters to run five screenings of recently released Tamil films per day. Theater owners and the Tamil film industry are expected to gain from the move.

Decision next to industry meeting

On May 16, after discussions with leaders of the Tamil film industry, the Chief Minister made the decision. According to reports, industry participants have asked for greater flexibility in movie showing schedules, particularly around big releases.

Only four regular screenings per day were allowed in theatres under the Tamil Cinema (Regulation) Rules, 1957. Only on festival days or government holidays might an extra “special” show be planned.

However, in the past, the district collector or police inspector had to give approval for further screenings outside of Chennai. The Commissioner of Police in Chennai handled the approval. The new rule streamlines the procedure and formally permits five daily screenings of newly released Tamil films.

Actor Vishal’s appreciation

Tamil Nadu’s film industry has benefited greatly under veteran actor and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. For the first seven days that freshly released Tamil films are in theaters, the government allowed theaters to run five shows every day. Actor Vishal praised him on social media and appreciated the decision.

Looking forward to more GO s passed for the general public in all sectors, bringing about relief and progressive growth. A big whistle from all of us.”
